I'm a high school English teacher, and I stock this book in my selection of poem books. It features a wide variety of accessible poems by authors from William Carlos Williams to Philip Larkin to Margaret Atwood to Nikki Giovanni, as well as a number of less well-known poets. The poems are grouped informally by subject, including sports, writing, death, family, and so on. It actually reminds me very much of one of Naomi Shihab Nye's collections. The design of the book is very dated; each page is bordered by bright geometric designs in primary colors. However, I haven't found that this has turned my students off, since the aesthetic has almost come full circle. If you're looking for a book to introduce someone to poetry, without recycling the same, overused "children's poems," or if you just want to enjoy a nice variety of readable poems for yourself, I highly recommend this book.
