Provocative Insight Into Coming of Age During World War II

I know Dr. Richard Davis very well. He and I were next door "office" neighbors for 2 years and I had the unique opportunity to know a gentleman, scholar, renowned neurosurgeon (Penn), and one of the finest writers, as first time novelists go. This novel is compelling, provocative, insightful, and utilizes a number of "voices" that evoke some of the greater novelists of the past fifty years. It is not a parody or homage, but a story of a very successful young man, Alex Dunham, and his story of growing up in Chicago as the son of a prominent surgeon, his trevails in private school during the '30's (no depression here), Princeton (Davis' Alma Mater) during the pre-war era, and the brutality of coming of age during the great war. In short, as I candidly do not want to retell the story, Davis has given us a beautiful story of a young man's personal conflict told in an easy to read, wonderful style. I highly recommend the book, even if I do regard Davis as a friend. You will enjoy this truly good book as it is a fresh story and something this age sorely lacks.

"Yours D3" a fascinating novel, thought-provoking-beautiful

I think "Yours D3" is a fascinating novel that is both exciting and deeply moving. The coming of age of a young man during the turbulent days before World War II carried me along through his school days and relationship with his first and only love, the sensitive and ebullient Steffi. The main character, Alex Dunham, chooses to volunteer for the Airborne Forces and becomes a courageous leader. I found the battle scenes described in chilling detail. The hero's struggle to overcome the guilt for the death of his men is a pivotal point in this thought-provoking and beautiful book.
