Your New Puppy

I was looking for a resource that would really walk me through my new puppy's development, mentally and physically, week-by-week. I was very excited when I saw this book's title, but dissapointed that it contained only a few bullet points per chapter about puppies' developmental growth. Most of the content is basic considerations for first-time puppy owners. It would probably be a great resource for first-timers though!

I had two dogs that I had adopted through rescue foundations when they were older, so I had never gone through the puppy stages. We were buying our first puppy back in August and I was a little skeptical about buying this (or any) book because I kind of thought I'd be able to figure it out on my own being that I already had dogs. So I bought a used copy since it was cheap. And I have to admit, I learned a lot from reading the book. It's definately worth paying the full amount for if you're getting your first puppy. Like the previous reviewer said, it's definately for beginners ... there is some pretty basic information in there that every dog owner would (or should) know. But it is also packed with good information pertaining just to the development, safety, socialization, and care of puppies which is invaluable. Highly recommended.

I ran across this book browsing a local store, and thought, hey why not. I just brought home a new puppy about 3 weeks ago and was captured by the "week by week" puppy development guide. Well, to be honest I didn't have a lot of hope for this book, but it surprised me. This book is well writen by a proffesional who knows his stuff. Granted I've read more indepth dog books, but this accomplishes its means. This book is an overview of your puppies development and what you can expect. The week by week guide is short and consice but it gives you an idea. The author never tries to sell you on one thing or another, even when his opinions are present. Over all I enjoyed it, it was well written and a fast read for that reason. The content was not condensending or expectant of the reader to already be a doggie master. Great book for beginners! It also comes with places for notes between each chapter and folders on the inside of each cover (which I will be using to keep my puppy's medical records for easy access). Over all: GREAT read, valuable information for both Puppy parents and Puppy parents to be. Go for it you won't be sorry! Note: If you are a "dog expert" already this isn't really for you... its definatly a beginner book or a book for people who want a course refresher on puppy-ness
