I agree with the other reader's review. Johnson very ably handles the diverse issues that affect young girls in a way that they can identify with and grow from. I read this book straight through two times in a row when I first read it at around 13 years of age. I have never read anything written for this age group (10-13 years) that was so insightful and sensitive yet not exaggerated. At 13, I felt it was written exactly to who I was.
Gentle wisdom for younger adolescent girls
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
I was given this book as a little girl and have shared it with many of the girls ages 10-13 I have met since then. The author sympathetically treats topics important to girls this age, including satisfaction (or not) with appearance and boys, but also dealing with harassment, teasing, and death. It's a very gentle book, filled with comments from youth Johnson has worked with and anecdotal accounts of how her suggestions have played out in people's lives. It's very Christian without being heavy-handed, and girl-friendly without being overtly feminist *nor* hyper-feminine.
