Book Overview

You Are What You Love makes Eastern mysticism friendly to the Western mind. Author Vaishali, an intellectual, yet highly irreverent mystic, magically mixes concepts and story-telling from such traditional sources as Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Sufism, with the ancient mystic, Emanuel Swedenborg. She also mixes in unconventional sources, such as Groucho Marx, Cheech and Chong, Jimi Hendrix, James Dean, and Homer Simpson. You Are...

Finally a Book on Spirituality With Practical Application in Everyday Life

The first few chapters lay the groundwork for the rest of the book. So whatever you do, don't put it down. The payoff definitely comes, and in a very big way. My problem with spiritual books is that they give you concepts, but they don't tell you how to apply them in your everyday life. So really, what good are they? This one is different. Concepts are given practical applications through humor and true stories at the end of the chapters. These illustrate the spiritual concepts and show how people (in far worse situations than I've ever been in) put them to use to change their lives. If you want to know what to do the next time you're at the grocery store and someone, with an overflowing shopping cart, first cuts in front of you at the 10 item or less "cash only" checkout counter, then whips out their checkbook, BUY THE BOOK! I also own the book on CD which is an 80 minute condensed version of the book. It is the same great message with humor and wit. It's nice to be able to listen to Vaishali whenever I'm in my car.

Spirituality for Modern Times

Vaishali speaks with a clarity rarely seen in so many spiritual-self help books of today. She sets out a clear path to not only what people have called "enlightenment" but a path toward wakefulness and understanding. The path is simple: Love, or rather, Love in act. This book is written with the growth of the reader as the goal. Refreshing and on target.

Gratitude

Reviewed by Jennifer Woodard for Reader Views (11/06) "You Are What You Love" is a long book, almost 400 pages and repetitive. It is understandable that when teaching a new way of thinking, the author must repeat the information for the reader to understand, digest and accept the information. The problem is the repetitiveness of the information can become boring and cause the reader to put the book down, PLEASE DON'T. This book has a lot of useful information. The premise of this book is that what you keep your mind focused on is what you will have in your life. We as humans operate with two types of consciousness, the spiritual conscious and the ego conscious. The author refers to the spiritual conscious as Heaven and the ego conscious as Hell. We can cause our living here on earth to be either Heaven or Hell by our thoughts. What we think about is what we love. So how does this work? The ego (Hell) wants to keep of thinking of the past or future. To believe that we are not good enough, smart enough, just plain old not enough. The spiritual (Heaven) wants us to keep our thoughts in the present, that we are enough and God creates us perfect just as we are. That what we are experiencing in life is a direct reflection of that we keep on our minds. If we are constantly thinking about bills, ill health, or failures we will always have these things in our life. We will always project outward what we are feeling inward. If we want to change our circumstances we must remain in the present and be grateful for what we have. We cannot serve two masters, Heaven or Hell, we must choose one. If we spend our time thinking about what we are grateful for here and now, we will expand our consciousness of love and goodness and draw more of the same to us. If we constantly think about the good things in our life and give love, honest and trust to the universe, we will receive the same. We have to learn the art of forgiveness and move on from things of the past. We have to learn the art of letting go and moving on. When we spend our time being thankful, we will not have time to think about the things that we feel are not right in our lives. When you spend your time being grateful you are serving one master, the master of Heaven who is capable of meeting all of our needs and offers an infinite supply of abundance, just waiting for us to acknowledge and accept it. We must remain conscious of our thoughts at all times, and when we find ourselves thinking of Hell thoughts (inferiority, self-doubt, self-hatred, judgment of others) we must return out thoughts to Heaven (love, respect, trust, honesty). Although "You Are What You Love" can take some getting though, it is well worth the effort. When you become thankful for what you have, the universe will give you more things to be thankful for. The author also provides a workbook and CD to help the readers move from thoughts of Hell to thoughts of Heaven.

A little different approach to already established paths!

Vaishali writes with humor, candor and simplicity. She states that the information is not new, but the approach is. She lays out the path to a better way vividly by means that most will pick up on immediately. I purchased the CD first. It was brief, but had a strong message, however, I needed more detail to get a fuller understanding. The 400 page book provides that and more. In fact, her clear, lucid presentation was a shock. She consistently used references to many diferent religions to make her points. Her frequent references to the principles of Ayurvedic medicine and beliefs as well as Chinese Medicine were quite informative This is easily one of the best books on spirituality available!

Brilliant Spiritual Guide for the 21st Century

If life has got you by the short hairs, you'd better check this book out. It's really wild, and at the same time, reaches a level of depth you are not going to find elsewhere. Vaishali is a brilliant teacher of consciousness. Her understanding of spirituality far surpasses most individuals. After all, who do you know who can talk about the spirituality of Mini-Me as easily as she can talk about the world's major religions? I have interviewed tons of best selling authors in the field of spirituality and consciousness, and truthfully, Vaishali stands above most of them. She is also extremely funny, so you are going to enjoy this book a lot. Randy Peyser, author of "Crappy to Happy," "Miracle Thinking" (upcoming) and contributor to "Healing the Heart of the World."
