Wwiii: South China Sea

This Book is a real page turner, its only down fall is the amount of characters and locations that you have to keep up with. The plot and character's are awesome!I have read the following 3 books in this seires and I am equaly satisfied.Good Job Ian!

When I first saw the book, I also bought its sequeals, not just planning to read the first one but the other ones as well. There is no way you can just buy this book and be satisfied. You must buy the all the others also. The storyline goes on. I bought this book just to see what WWIII would be like and the story is really believeable from it's time in the early 90's. I liked how it incorperated the Gulf War, eventhough the war had just begun when the book was published. Most people say that the story has some military inaccuracies, but they are not important. Some of these inaccuracies are stuff like names of units, weights and other minor details that aren't really improtant. The book was accuracte in telling about a war in europe and although repeated the korean war, told of war in southeast asia also. The best part of the book is the characters. The book is mainly about how one family survives in a war. The characters are very descriptive and detailed. I liked it and currently reading the other books and thoroughly enjoying them. Ian Slater has done a great job.

As a retired military officer, I quickly noted some of the author's failure to write correct simple details. For example, US Navy women other ranks, (enlisted) were referred to as "WAVES," a women's separate corps that has not existed for more than 20 years. They were also given army ratings, e.g., "sergeant" instead of petty officer. The whole book is full of such stuff. On the other hand, the suspenseful plot and the highly believable descriptions of strategy, tactics and human behavior are so outstanding that I am forced to forgive this author and even award him five stars! Don't fail to read this book if military novels interest you.

I have to disagree with most of you on this matter. The WWIII series is certainly one of the best series I have ever read (and I have read a lot). The military aspect is realistic and not always "good guys win." The characters clearly have personality that is discribed well in the book. The only problem is the typos.

Ian Slater has written an excellent book. The characters were very real, the battle scenes were excellent, and the tech stuff was very interesting. The only problems were: How exactly did General Freeman defeat the North Koreans, and what was the point of the aborted sex scene involving Melissa Lange and David Brentwood?
