Shortest, yet most complete tech writing book I've read

This is not a style guide, like many of the technical writing books on the market. It is a slim book, but very cleary explains everything you need to know to be an excellent, professional technical writer - not just the writing, but project plannig, getting information from the engineers, creating style guides, etc. Its only shortcoming is that it is not up-to-date for online and html help developments. Maybe in a future edition...
Best book on how to write computer software manuals.
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
I teach technical writing at a university, and I was sadly disappointed when this book went out of print a year or two ago. It looks like it might be available once again. Most technical writing books allow computer manuals one or two chapters at best--and they typically include a lot of extraneous and unnecessary material. This one is blessedly short and deals only with writing computer manuals. It is well organized, easy to follow, and to the point. I give it my highest recommendation. If you're teaching or studying how to write compuer manuals you can't go wrong with this book. May it never again go out of print.
