A Valuable Guide

As an undergraduate I took a historical methods course that was taught by Professor Frakes. I can honestly say that he offers students practical and valuable advice and instruction for researching and writing papers. Professor Frakes is an accomplished historian and a dedicated teacher. I am now pursuing my Master's degree in history, and I know that I learned a great deal from Professor Frakes that I will utilize throughout my time in graduate school.

Pratical Advice for the College History Student

Writing for a college history course can be quite difficult for many typical college students. In this brief and concise book, Robert Frakes provides students with a practical guide for preparing and composing written exercises in college history survey courses from brief identification paragraphs during in class examinations to lengthy research papers. To illustate his recommendations, Frakes offers readers various concrete examples of such exercises, which show the characteristics of both superior and inferior writing. The book also includes several informative appendices concerning source citations, bibliographies, and essay questions, which often appear on exams in history survey courses. In addition to benefitting students, college history teachers may find the book useful as a resource for evaluating students' writing.
