Helpful to all beginning writers!

This is definitely a book that has helped me struggle through my teen years when I was learning how to write, and it still does help me as a college student in my creative writing courses. It is a book all aspiring young writers (and old, too) should read. It's both inspiring and helpful, offering advice on character creation to plot-building. There's even a cool chapter on writing mysteries, for all of you Arthur Conan Doyle hopefuls. So check it out. I can't say enough how much it's helped me.

A Must Have for Writers

This is the best book on writing available, and not just writing books for young readers. Lee Wyndham covers all the elements crucial to any story, like characterization, plotting, maintaining suspense, and offers tips on how to get published. Also includes a section on writing the mystery story. If you want to learn how to write good, well-crafted stories, look no further for a how-to book. You've found it.

Excellent

I have taken three fiction writing classes from a major writing school. I have scanned a large number of writing books. I write middle grade/young adult novels.I just have to write this here. This is the best book I've seen in its subject. It has been so helpful to me especially the "how to organize a book" and "plotting" sections. I would reccomend this book to anyone who is starting to write books for children and teenagers.

A Great Guide for the Young Adult Author

If you're a beginning writer in need of advice, this is a great book whether you're writing for children, teenagers or adults. While in the process of writing a short story or novel, Wyndham guides you every step of the way. In every chapter she gives advice on how to keep your work organized, something creative minds usually have trouble with. Her section on getting published is extremely valuable and informative. I think every college creative writing program should have this book as a curriculum requirement. It not only teaches, it encourages. Young writers need that more than they need a list of things they can't write about so as not to offend the teacher/administration, etc. If anyone is interested in writing ANY kind of fiction, I suggest you purchase this book and read it thoroughly.

This book was so good my writing mentors use it.

I have read many books on this topic and none of them held my attention and spoke a language that I could understand like this one. The issues addressed are all current depsite the age of the original publication of this book. I tried to highlight the relevant portions of the text and found my entire book highlighted. Every word is valuable. I feel my writing has improved tremendously since reading this book and applying it's notions to my writing! A retired editor and writer friend of mine recently revealed her use of this book in helping her prepare her ideas and develop them into succssful stories. I could not recommend a book more if you want to write for children.
