Book Overview

Worse Than Death is the very sexy pulp novel about making love to a woman -- who happens to be a vampire. Gottlieb, whose first novel, Love Bite, became a made-for-TV movie, is back with a horrifyingly funny vampire novel about a Los Angeles policeman who has resigned from his job to spend eternity with his beloved. Their lust knows no bounds, but he is shy about making the transition from human to vampire. When he does, both of them are shocked to...

Enjoyable vampire tale

Los Angeles police detective Jace Levy resigns from the force when he decides to take a different bite out of crime. Jace agrees to allow his lover, vampiress Risha to turn him into one of the undead so they can spend much of eternal night making love with one another. Still, Joe remains a bit reluctant to complete the final transition from mortal to immortal. However, Jace's need to spend eternity with his lover overrides his usual good sense. His desire for an eternal orgasmic experience persuades him to allow Risha to complete the change. Joe continues to work as a private investigator hunting those who prey on society and making them his meal. However, the transition that was supposed to provide Joe with his soul's desire has a Twilight Zone twist to it. Instead of great passionate lovemaking, his sex life begins to fail as a by-product of male vampirism. Joe blames Risha for hiding the truth while she accuses him of using her to abort the effect of a mortal disease. WORSE THAN DEATH starts off as a biting humorous satire centering on the theme to be careful what you wish for because you might be very unhappy when you get it. The interaction between humans and vampires adds an interesting element to the early plot. However, once Joe completes the metamorphosis, the story line seems to lose much of its teeth. Still, fans of vampire tales, especially Sherry Gottlieb's popular previous work (see LOVE BITE) will enjoy this parable about some fates bring WORSE THAN DEATH.

An Entertainment "Must Read" Selection

"Worse Than Death" by Sherry Gottlieb is better than bubble gum! Outrageously funny and right to the heart of what is most important to man and beast - sex, more sex, and ...feeding.From the first page to the last, I enjoyed the suspense, constantly thinking 'gee, who would have ever thought...' and the winding through the maze of plot, sub-plot, and provocative actions of the characters. I found myself taking "Worse Than Death" everywhere I went so that if I had even enough time to read a paragraph, I would have it there to read.I hated getting down to the last few pages. I wanted the book to keep right on going. The absolute best part of all that generated the most wonderful belly laugh was, of course, the end.The research needed to incorporate such fascinating little-known facts and accurate time line/events of the day (that must have taken forever) made the novel even more believable. After reading "Love Bite" I was thrilled to find "Worse Than Death." I can't wait for the next one. What a treat the readers are in for!

WORSE THAN DEATH a real page turner

"Sherry Gottlieb knows how to tell a story; WORSE THAN DEATH is a real page-turner." - Joe Haldeman "Would you care to live forever if the price is the one thing that makes life worth living? Sherry Gottlieb investigates life and love among the undead in a frequently funny, often terrifying novel." - Frank M. Robinson"WORSE THAN DEATH intrigues me. It's inventive and very amusing. Highly recommended." - Philip José Farmer"A wonderfully erotic, hardboiled murder mystery about vampires in love." - Richard A. Lupoff "WORSE THAN DEATH is a sexy, supernatural whodunit; Gottlib's vampires are compellingly original, with compellingly human problems. One wild, fast-paced ride..." - Jeanne Kalogridis
