a must have for artists who work in ink

"Most bone Chilling" is the last (?) of three "true" ghost stories books, which I bought when I was just a little kid. Each book has about 20 two or three paged stories dealing with the subject of hauntings. I liked all of these books (which I still own) but now, as a twenty-year old who loves to draw cartoons, I really cherish this title. The most important aspect of this book is the illustrations by Jim Sharp. They are rendered in a jagged, pen and ink technique that is actually pretty frightening to look at. You see excellent and slightly surreal renderings of skulls, skeletons, glaring eyes, and best of all, regular people looking completely and utterly terrified. This is where Sharp's style really gets to you. There are plenty of scarier and more morbid art showing great monsters (Vincent Locke's Cannibal Corpse album covers, or anything by HR Giger), but I never have seen an illustration of a REACTION to fear that gets to me like this stuff. The most dreadful image is the illustration for "Death Watch". It shows a dying old man in a hospital bed and an ordinary curly headed guy is pulling back the privacy curtains and laughing. After you read the story, you find out the guy is a mysterious phantom. This image gives me the chills every time I look at it. Just describing it does not give it justice. I totally recommend this book to horror-art fans.
