Words Overflown by Stars: Creative Writing Instruction and Insight from the Vermont College Mfa Program

As a writer who continually tries to improve his craft I've purchased many books in this area. Most of them cover the same old ground, so I skim through them and put them in 'the pile'. I was expecting the same with this one but was surprised to find that there was a lot that was useful despite the lack of writing exercises. One essay in particular I found particularly useful was 'Notes on novel structure' by Douglas Glover, which in a meager 10 pages told me what I was frequently doing by accident. Now I actually know what I'm doing(rather than intuitive)and can make it a conscious choice which gives me more stylistic choices. The book covers prose and poetry and am very pleased with the purchase.
