Great And Informative Book [Denton,TX,USA]

Wonders of The African World is one of the best, fascinating and interesting books l have read on African history and its past.Dr.Gates Jr., set out to explore the African heritage and focuses on the history of the Slave trade and the several African Kingdoms and countries where Africans were taken into Slavery to the New World.AS an African and a scholar l found this book and Dr.Gates Jr., PBS series to be very informative to both African American and non-African Americans. Joseph O.Asagba,Ph.D.

This One Should Share Library Space with "Roots"

Not since Alex Haley's historical "novel" was released over twenty years ago has a book so enthralled me with its information about a forgotten people. Dr. Gates has fashioned an entertaining journey into the past of Africa, a past that should be made a part of every American because of past omissions. Every page, every chapter provides the reader with insight into the development, the abuse, and the richness of the respective peoples and lands of the heretofore mislabeled "Dark Continent." It is because of this "darkness" that the book brings to "light" some of the myths and misconceptions of that area of the world. A major accomplishment in the literary field is this work. I, for one, am making plans to visit the continent to experience the wonder and power of this most intriguing land!

This book is beautifully illustrated and well written.

Henry Louis Gates book "Wonders of the African World is beautifully illustrated and is an excellent example of Africa's rich cultural and intellectual history. I was especially impressed with his representation of Africa's intellectual traditions. I found Dr. Gates book to be an interesting complement to "Intellectual Traditions of Pre-Colonial Africa" by Dr. Constance Hilliard, which provides an indepth investigation into these traditions (both oral and intellectual).

Very informative and motivating

Mr. Gates did a great job of showing the truth about Blacks. Mr. Gates' video should be shown to all Black and white students. It should be reguired for all class levels.

Powerful.Engaging. A superb read that educates and inspires

Gates has literally outdone himself (and probably every other serious scholar who has attempted to unearth the rich historical account of Africa and its peoples). Leading readers on an illuminating journey grounded in unshakable fact, Gates traverses this glorious continent in an effort that is unyielding in breadth and intimacy. A must read for anyone of intellectual consequence.
