Although this book is an "oldie", and is a bit behind the times now (but only because its 20 years old), its still a "goodie"! The author explores important issues that affect women heroin addicts. For example, many women find it hard to get treatment when they have children they live with -- children they must take care of. "Women on Heroin" is rich with quotes from women who have been "in the game" enough that they know its rules like the back of their hand. It also explores prostitution and the role crime plays in the life of female heroin addicts. The only complaint I have about "Women on Heroin" -- and this is more a personal preference than anything else -- is the rather dismissive attitude the author takes towards methadone as a treatment option. I can only chalk that up to the book being more than two decades old.
