in second grade, we had a book cart set up in the corner of the room. i think maybe i was the only person who knew about Ruth Chew (in my classroom)as i am certain if anyone else read her stories, they would have talked about them, or acted strangely. i'm not saying these books are strange in a bad way, but they are, if i remember correctly, magical....kind of like "the chocolate touch," but better... i read ruth chew books until they were all gone, and i plan to get copies for what will happen in ten, twenty years when i have a kid, and hopefully she will love reading these books as much as i did. I don't know if Ruth is still alive, but anyhow, she kind of sculpted the beginning of my life. she gave me a place to live inside, for awhile there.
