Almost Historic Tales From Wisconsin

The title says it best. This is a collection of tales and legends from Wisconsin. Some of the recollections are barely a paragraph long; other tales go on for pages. But for those of us who fomdly recall listening to the tales and legends our uncles and grandsfathers and their friends used to spin as we sat around the campfire at night will appreciate these yarns. They recount the true legends and lore timelessly woven into the fabric of Wisconsin history.

Home-grown tales

"There are plenty of people willing to talk, but until recently there were precious few who'd sit still and listen"..............until now. A well written entertaining read. You can believe it or not, I think they did. You'll hear ghost stories, listen to lumberjack tales, and learn of the Indian legends, the hoaxers, the superstitions, the proverbs, and many more. "The lore in this book is essentially home-town or home-place lore." What you'll discover: Wisconsin contains, if the yarns are an indication, more ghosts per square mile than any other nation. Do you know how the town of Eleva got its name? Learn the "simple talk" of the lumberjacks. We find our way into the homes of the early pioneer healers. Enjoy the strange tales of the antics of the "real folk". Many of the Indian tales are linked to their environment. The circus could only bring amazing stories to life. Buried treasure in Wisconsin? Wish you well Scott
