Wings of Dawn

This book has a good story line with believable characters, and as all of Sigmund Brouwer's books, it is a very easy to find yourself swept away into the world of a highly inventive young man named Thomas in the year 1312. If you've read "King Arthur" you won't want to miss this book!

I read this series at least twenty times. I enjoy it sooo much. I wish that Mr. Brouwer writes more after the eighth book (not included in this book along with the seventh). I find the plot simply mysterious and enchanting. I will love this book always. I'm a nanny and I have read this book aloud to the kids and they adore it. I have given it to my friends to read and they all love it as well. My kids ARE GOING TO READ THIS BOOK TOO! Another series that goes along well with these books are the lost years of Merlin and these are by T.A. Baron. Check them out too!

After reading this book (basically not being able to put it down) I went out and bought another copy for a friend. Mr. Brouwer has done an incredible job in writing this book. I put it in the top five of my reccommendations.Wings of Dawn starts of fast-paced and interesting, and throws you right into the middle of the action. From there it is basically nonstop adventure. Journey with young Thomas as he travels England and the Holy Land, wondering just who he can trust and who he can't in a generations-long war between secret associations. Who is he really? And what is his true purpose? Find out as you travel along with him.This book is loaded with charactes you can really root for, intrigue, logic, and good-over-evil battle. I would reccomend it to anyone, young and old alike. I am a HUGE fan of Stephen Lawhead, and I would rank Wings of Dawn right up there with the Pendragon Cycle and the Warlords of Nin. Very high praise indeed!

This was my absolute favorite book by S. Brouwer (despite the goofy cover picture)! I read it in two days and lost a lot of sleep simply because I could not put the book down. It was worth it.This book is actually a compilation of the 8-book series "Winds of Light," previous published separately, and tell the ongoing saga of Thomas, an orphan boy who believes it is his destiny to conquer and rule the small kingdom of Magnus. The book takes place in 1312-1314 in England, but travels to Europe and the Holy Land as well. Throughout his travels, Thomas learns about himself, his friends, God, power, society, knowledge, religion, and trust. The book keeps moving with constant conflicts internally and externally.When you read this book, it is helpful to remember that it is a compilation of 8 books. Every once in a while the author goes back and recaps what just happened, and you know that this is where the books were joined together. However, I actually found this quite helpful in keeping the story straight in my head; after 550+ pages of material, the recaps keep the characters and numerous plot twists in order. Also, when you are finished with the book, make sure to read the historical notes in the back. The depth of Brouwer's research is mind-boggling!Overall, I highly recommend this book. A great story, great characters, and great historical context make it a magnificent book.

The book was given to my 10 year old son by another 10 year old. He read it and said it was great but it is NOT a children's book. The plot was deep, involved and very good. On the positive side it showed the virtues of logic and compassion as there was very little killing in an era when most books are very bloody. It was a book where good wins over evil and compassion over hate and learning over ignorance. It is a book I would like all of my children to read as they could learn a lot from it's strong moral foundation.

This book by Brouwer is the best book I have ever read. It was so gripping I found it hard to put down. It followed the life of a young knight that was faced with uncountable struggles. He didn't know who to trust and was circled by evil. Druids were trying to find an ancient secret that he had learned in a monastry when only a boy. This book is so deep and compelling I couldn't possibly explain it all. I highly recommend it.
