Window Maker

Window maker. Deals with the making of the many and beautiful historical windows for the restoration of the Nauvoo Temple (built in the early 1840s) in Nauvoo, Illinois. It was restored in 2002. It gives an accurate account of the leadership in this effort and the management of the project. I had hoped for more detail in the creative process. He mentions a number of creative leaps, but doen't flesh them out with enough detail for me.. The author, and window contractor, does leaves a sense of spiritual yearning as the driving force.( An aside, I just recently finished a small stain glass portrait which got into an international exhibit.) That is why I expected to learn a lot, perhaps too much, from the book about window making.

Window Maker

I was asked many times while working on the windows and doors for the Nauvoo Temple if I would make a book available where I could share those experiences. Initially, it wasn't something I had a desire to do. Yet as the work progressed, I changed my thinking because there were so many challenging and spiritual experiences that seemed important to others when I shared them.... The experiences I relate designing, building and installing the windows and front doors of the temple in Window Maker tell one aspect of the reconstruction of the Navoo Temple. There are many stories that others could tell of their special experiences. I have kept a daily journal for two decades and kept two journals during the thirty-four months that I was involved with this project. As I wrote my daily journal, I would take the experiences relating to work on the temple and place it in the second journal. This book is written from the exact daily quotations that I entered in my temple journal. I have corrected spelling and punctuation errors, but I have not altered what I thought, felt, or perceived. In many respects, Window Maker is a blow-by-blow description of how the 134 Nauvoo Temple windows and seven front doors were built. The reader will find the Lord also invited others to join with me in this enormousd responsibility. --- excerpt from book's Introduction
