A fun, motivational book in bite size morsels!

What I was looking for was something to motivate me to keep on with my diet and fitness program. When I sent for Anne Alexander's book, I was actually expecting to be disappointed, because so many diet books are very rigid, no matter what their title suggests! Not so with this book. It is packed with short, half page accounts of key things each person did to lose weight. It may have been taking a dance class for exercise, walking someone else's dog, joining a weight loss group, listening to books on tape, you name it. I found it exciting to see that there are so many different ways to accomplish the goal of weight loss. I feel like I have a pretty decent imagination, and that I've heard of, or even tried, just about everything, but this book had some really neat tips that I wouldn't have thought of. This is not an instructional book. It is a way to help you see that weight loss can work for YOU, as the individual you are. The people profiled were from all walks of life, and I am pretty sure just about every age bracket. I am really enjoying the short bites of information, and don't feel the need for pictures or long explanations. This is, I feel, primarily a motivational book, designed to jump start your brain so you can thing outside the box and see fitness and weightloss in a whole new way. I've been carting mine to the gym because it's perfect for my crosstraining routines.

Great inspiration for anyone trying to lose weight!

If you are trying to lose weight and need some extra inspiration, this is the book for you. After watching the encouraging stories on Oprah, I picked up this book and proceeded to race through it. With so many people just like me offering their tips and advice, how could I not be encouraged to go after my weight-loss goal? I've lost 10 pounds in 2 months and have 20 more to go. I now re-read sections of the book several times a week, to help me stay inspired. I highly recommend this book!

Extremely inspirational

I refer back to this book every day for an injection of inspiration. The people have very diverse stories and circumstances and something is sure to click with all of us. Yes, pictures would be nice, but I still feel the book warrants five stars - I have seen profiles of several people in the book elsewhere, so I know they're real people. You can get many good ideas from this book, and you are also reminded that you are NOT alone in your weight struggles! I love it. I carry it in my bag.

I saw this book on Oprah!

I saw the stories of several people from this book on Oprah last week so I bought the book and I agree with the previous reviewer. There are so many inspirational stories and so many different ideas to use in the war against fat. I keep flipping open to a new story everyday and every time I get a good, usable new idea. Anyone who has battled weight knows that there is no one answer for everyone and no one answer in every situation. This book is really helping me in my effort to lose weight. I highly recommend it.

Inspirational title!

I was somewhat skeptical about this book. I figured it would be filled with pithy little sayings but I was delighted to find some true inspiration. From people who have struggled to lose 10 pounds to one woman who has lost 400 pounds, these people have been there and know what it takes to be successful. I think perhaps the most helpful thing I gleaned from this book was that each person found a different thing that helped them to find their weight-loss success. For some it was discovering an anchor, for others it was facing the emotional reasons behind their eating. It showed me that there isn't one right answer for all of us - we each need to find what works for us. I highly recommend this title to those who are looking for motivation. I know I will pick this book up and flip through it whenever I need a little push in the right direction!
