Best overnight or multiday backpacking/kayaking cookbook

I bought this book when first published and it is still the best book I have come across and I own just about all books in print for light (and not so light) wilderness cuisine. The author does a great job discussing food prep, storage, planning the menu. I called publishing company to see if a sequel was coming and unfortunately not. If you like a little more gourmet menu and can spend some time prepping at home this is the book for you.

Superb "how-to" manual for outdoorsmen and women with a refined palate.

Author Carole Latimer shares her twelve years of experience cooking for clients on wilderness trips in Wilderness Cuisine, a cookbook that proves enjoying the backcountry outdoors doesn't require giving up delectable gourmet food! Chapters address how to pack food and keep it fresh, how to equip a wilderness kitchen, how to set up camp and cook with minimal repercussions to the environment, how to keep food safe from animals, and much more. A wealth of wilderness-friendly recipies from Camper's Classic Jerky Marinade to Pear Torte, Corn Oatcakes, French Onion Soup Base and much more round out this superb "how-to" manual for outdoorsmen and women with a refined palate.

A great book for campers and hikers of all experience levels

This book contains not only a variety of recipes but half the book is dedicated to valuable information on grocery shopping, food preparation, meal planning, equipment, cooking techniques, etc. Carole Latimer, author and "offical cook on the Call of Wilderness trips" has no qualms about listing the best brands of foods to purchase. Carole strongly believes that you CAN eat delicious meals in the wild (your meals don't have to all be prepackaged, freeze-dried). It is obvious in her writings that being in the outdoors is food for the soul and food for the body should enhance that experience. "The physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits of good food to a wilderness party can hardly be overestimated." This was exactly the kind of book I needed to boost my confidence in taking my family of five tent camping this summer!
