Book Overview

Dr. Joe Stowell believes we all have a little Pharisee in our hearts -- that grim faced, self righteous person who cares more about being outwardly religious, than about a heart that responds to Jesus... This description may be from another edition of this product.

This is a great book!

Based on the small number of reviews for this book, it's obvious that not many people have read it. I hope that changes. The title alone prompted me to buy the book and read it. I found it to be one of the best books I have ever read on this subject. I am reading it again for the second time. The illustration out of Luke 7 that the author uses over the first few chapters, which is about the sinful woman who enters a pharisee's home to show her love for Jesus, brought me to tears. The book is very easy to read, yet has so much depth. The book also has a personal and group discussion guide in the back of the book. I am going to recommend to my pastor that we use this book for our adult Sunday school. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wishes to develop a deeper love for Jesus.

convicting and soul searching

It is a book that is needed in the church today. Very simple to read and convicting.

Great Book!

This book was really good! It was challenging and eye-opening. I highly recommend that you read this book and give it to anyone else who is struggling with what God wants them to do in life.

It's A Heart-Style not only a Life-Style

This is a powerful Christ-Centered book which every Christian should read. I was in the bookstore looking for a book on obedience and noticed this book in a very inconspicuous place on the shelf. This book didn't have all the usual fanfare associated with trendy Christian advertising to announce it's presence but I saw it. At first the title intrigued me because I have seen many titles about Loving God or Jesus but never one about why it's hard to love Him. As I sat and read the first few paragraphs my eyes welled up with tears over the words (my paraphrase) "we always ask do we love Jesus but the real question we should ask is does Jesus feel loved by us." Dr. Stowell then goes on to illustrate how it is so hard to love Christ if we are not part of the forgiven much. His main passage in the book is about the sinful woman who washes the feet of Jesus with her tears, while in the Pharisees house. The amazing contrasts Dr. Stowell makes in this book are sure to bring conviction to your heart as it did to mine when I discovered the Pharisee in my own heart and the need to become part of the forgiven much. A definite must read if you are serious about what it means to love Jesus from a heart-style and not a lifestyle.Dr. Stowell you have blessed my life as always thank you.
