Dear Reader, Have you wondered if humans will ever be able to make sense of human life? Will we ever be able to understand the fundamental logic of human life in clear terms that make rational sense? During my adolescent awakening, I became passionate about making rational sense of human life. But it was only after gaining competence in analytic thinking and in mathematic proofs, during my doctoral work in computer science, that I acquired the intellectual skills to realize this goal. Here are the five most fundamental problems that I solved. What is a human, and what is human life about? A human is a biological intelligent agent. That is, a human is a biological goal-processing system -- a system for creating and achieving goals. Human life is about skillfully achieving the high-level goals that are inherent in human nature. What is knowledge? Knowledge is our means for skillfully predicting our subjective observations so that we can skillfully achieve our goals. Is reality deterministic? I prove that determinism is logically impossible, and I show how to reason about reality under indeterminism. The proof is mathematic but is relatively simple. How does our mind work? I identify the main components and operations of the mind. I explain consciousness and define it objectively. And I review relevant psychology literature. Do we have freewill? I refute every notable challenge to freewill. A complete proof of freewill would characterize all possible challenges by category and then refute every category. I review relevant philosophy literature, and I show that the authors do not know how to reason about reality under indeterminism and they do not know how the mind works. If you start reading this book, I believe that you will agree that the book is well organized, clearly written, and coherently reasoned. Nearly every page has at least one heading, and there is, on average, one figure for every 10 pages. As you read the book, you can use the headings and the figures to skip to the topics of interest to you at the moment. Philip BitarHere are highlights from the book. Explains exactly what knowledge is Explains beauty and art Proves that reality is indeterministic Solves the wave-particle duality and the two most famous Zeno paradoxes Explains the volitional and the automatic operations of the mind Explains consciousness and defines it objectively Establishes that we have freewill Establishes the nature of ethical principles and identifies the most basic ethical principle: symmetry Explains the nature of sexuality and the reason for traditional marriage Explains the nature of commerce and the reason for government Analyzes the political dynamics of direct democracy vs representative democracy Explains that the suppression of free speech in the slave states from 1791 to 1861 was a primary causal factor for secession Explains how we obtain meaning in life Explains that willpower (exertion of effort) is necessary for meaning but that willpower implies the possibility of suffering Disproves the idea of heaven vs hell and explains the origin of the idea Shows that the debate of atheism vs theism is misguided due to deep issues of logic For more info, visit www.WhyHumanLifeMakesSense.com.
