Discusses the causes, effects, and ethical aspects of war and possible ways of preventing it. This description may be from another edition of this product.
although the listing says the reading level is ages 4-8, the content is at a much higher level. My 6 year old had no difficulty reading the book, but the concepts inside were a bit over her head. It addresses clearly, using easy to understand language, the very difficult-to-discuss issue of war. The book does, as it should, mention death & suffering a bit, and has photos of soldiers (no gory stuff). For a 2nd-3rd grader, I believe this would be a great way to open a discussion about wars, what causes them, and maybe what can be done to prevent them. Sadly, it IS dated - it refers to Angola and Iran/Iraq in the current tense. If it gets revised, and I truly hope it does, I look forward to purchasing the new edition for my kids in a few years.
