The best book that I've read so far!

This brother wrote one of the most enlightening books on the African experience in the Western world. This is a very interesting and uplifting book on a controversial topic. I cannot say enough about this book because it covers more areas then I could have imagined. History is the clock that a people use to tell their time says Dr. John Henrik Clarke, and Mr. Persaud is definitely letting us know what time it is on the subject and his watch is incredibly accurate. This is America and no one tells the truth about any thing. Religion, politics, race, and sex are all personal subjects that folks shy away from especially black folks, but he seems to have interviewed a great deal of black men, and cited many books. This book has been used in academic journals, universities and many other discussion groups and I can definitely see why and it gives so much more insight on African American history than most books. I will advise all you good folks who are interested to read this book. Do not judge it by its cover and do not judge it by the reviews. This book is special and no one really can pinpoint the vast areas it covers on the mental and intellectual health of black males. I give this book ten stars because it has changed my life. The list of works that Mr. Persaud cited is worth the price of this book. This book will keep on giving over and over again and when you least expect it the book teaches you again. You will certainly understand what is going on in this world far beyond black men and white women.

Refreshing...

Refreshing is the best word to describe Rejan's take on "Why Black Men Love White Women". For once a Black man discusses the topic from a neutral perspective instead of one that attacks and/or disrespects Black women. Conversely, his love and respect for Black women is evident. He is passionate, candid, and historical. He introduces a unique perspective and a wealth of new reading material for the thoughtful reader. The book is filled with useful information beyond the scope of the subject matter, such that he may have done himself a disservice by the title and cover of the book, both of which might discourage some readers. As does the Editor, I strongly encourage that the book not be judged by its cover nor by its title but that the reader instead first peruse the content. You will be pleasantly surprised. As Rejan exposes the reader to a variety of relevant issues, he brilliantly brings every chapter back to the topic at hand, BM/WW relationships. I HIGHLY recommend this book and encourage that astute book clubs that engage in post reading discussion, utilize the book as a catalyst for healthy and engaging dialog. Its a good book. Pick it up! A satisfied NJ reader.

Why Black People Must Seek to Understand

Author Rajen Persaud raises poignant perspectives on the controversial subject of interracial relationships between black men and white women. The apt title lures you in and the content does not disappoint in being a refreshingly candid and enjoyable page-turner because of how skillfully historical and current facts are juxtaposed against anecdotal stories. Persaud's command of prose interspersed with colloquialisms is brilliant. Quite simply, it's real, honest, thought-provoking, balanced and comical. The Black Community cries that there are no contemporary voices of reverence and resolution for where we have been and where we need to go with reconciling the great and deep loathing within our Race. Now, one man has spoken. Let's not shoot the messenger yet instead let's seek to understand and have real talk on action, with, not at each other, letting our anger subside as Black women and men, that we collectively work towards.

The Journey of Truth

The journey we all must take is a courageous and lonely one. The journey can only begin when we understand who we were as a people. If we understand and know who we were, we will begin to realize (very painfully) that we are indeed living beneath our intellect and our ability. When we choose to live in a world of fantasy through books that are sexually appealing and where false heroes dwell, our intellect becomes dull. Unfortunately, when we take on a book such as Why Black Men Love White Women, our emotions take control where intellect should rule. When we choose to shy away from the truth of our economics and politics (look at our communities), when we choose not to understand how and why our relationships are failing, when we refuse to accept that good brothers are still struggling, when we as women recognize that we are not truly respected in this society, when we accept responsibility for our undisciplined and unruly children that prevail within our schools, when we look for someone else to solve our issues, we need to come into the truth. Let this book bring it to you. Read this book and the recommended references and I promise you an eye opener -- you will never be the same again. If we seek to learn our lessons, refuse to judge what we don't understand, we can then inquire about the possibilities that truth can provide.

Now I know why!

Finally, someone took the time to lay this issue out the way it should be. This brother hit it from all angles, from the historical to the social, and even to the religious. While much of the content was a bit disturbing, it was good to know. And it made me feel a whole lot better about myself. At least I know why now and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
