A great YA story about strong friendship vs. high school
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
Amelia Whitney is a typical 15-year-old, whose days are filled with friends, teacher complaints and bratty younger siblings -- until she is nearly date-raped. The episode robs Amelia of her self-esteem, especially when she discovers how many people she used to consider her friends are willing to believe the rumors. Although it takes time, Amelia's friends help her to get a little revenge, and more importantly, get her old self back.
Amelia's Story

This story was about Amelia Whiteny. It is (I think) the second in the Whitney Girls stories. The other two books are Heather and Erin (I aslo believe there is a fourth that has all three in it). Amelia was the "good girl" in the Whitney family. She did her homework, had tons of friends and was generally enjoying high school. Until she went out on a date with the wrong boy. The story focuses on her recovery from that disasterous date and how she learned to express herself again. It was very realistic in the reactions from all the characters from the boy's denial, to the girl's thinking it was her fault, to her parents' outrage. The story also introduces Erin Whitney too with some hilarious results. This book was very good in dealing with the after effects of a near rape and I would recommend it to any one who is looking for a captivating read. The story flows along and never seems to let you go. It is funny, sad, and moving all in one.
