Whispers of the River

U.S. Marshal Eli Bonnet has the unpleasant task of pursuing a cold-blooded killer in the heart of Alaska's frozen Yukon territory during the last great Gold Rush. With only his trusty hound, an old prospector, and Hannah Twigg to back him up, Bonnet is ready to take on his quarry. But he quicky learns that the Alaskan frontier may be a formidable adversary.

best of the three

This book is the start to the 3 books in the series (whispers of the river, mountain, wind) and this book is by far the best. I didn't find really any dry or slow parts to this book unlike the other two in the series. It is worth picking up and reading even by itself. I really enjoyed it.

Riveting Read - Good Plot - Strong Characters

Whispers of the River is full of strong characters who are interwoven smoothly by the author, Tom Hron. He manages to evoke the end of the old west while also illustrating the wilds of Alaska. True to the times life is precarious and many challenges are faced and overcome, some with loss. I was disappointed in the ending however. He did not provide sufficient closure. Other than that miscue, this book is a great read and I would recommend it to those interested in the period. Tom Hron is a solid writer and I believe you will hear more of him in the future.
