When Gods Die: An Introduction to John of the Cross

This is a treatment of John of the Cross' Dark Night of the Soul and Dark Night of the Spirit along side of Carl Jung's and others' psychological treatment of the maturation of the psyche and ego in the spiritual seeking individual. This book is very accessible, for those without exposure to John of the Cross and for those well-versed in his spiritual mysticism. Recommended for those struggling with the loss of meaning in life, either in or out of religious traditions. I have sought it out several times to center myself in the midst of meaninglessness and the stripping away of limited images of who God really is, and how he manifests himself in life. Well worth the price.
