Feeling, Hearing, Loving, Healing

I try to read all the books on animal communication, and equines are my first interest. This was a very easily readable book, and I nearly finished it in a weekend. Julie Dicker is an intuitive and a healer. Having communicated with thousands of horses, her vast experience was used to highlight a number of specific "cases" she was involved with. It is quite obviously an English book, as opposed to American, but all the terms were pretty easy to figure out in context. Having been around horses most of my life, nothing said in the book was particularly surprising, but I did like the little surveys done at the end of each chapter. Asking horses what they like and what is important to them brought some surprise answers for anyone sure they would say grass, hay, or grain. To be busy and useful was the number one most important thing for horses, and receiving praise and attention even beat out food. A clear majority of the horses preferred to remain outdoors as opposed to stabled, but in every poll, there were exceptions. There are other books that go more into teaching one how to communicate intuitively with animals, but this book is noteworthy for the shear volume of material about the experiences, perceptions, and preferences of horses. Whether one believes in intuitive animal communication or not, there is a wealth of material here for anyone interested in better understanding our equine companions. While many breeds of horses and ponies were represented, there was no material from donkeys or mules. While there are many similarities with horses, donkeys and mules have some definite differences. Though these differences have been explored by sensitive trainers such as Meredith Hodges, I would love to hear what a good intuitive such as Julie Dicker could learn from donkeys and mules. Julie and the author's love for the animals comes through in every aspect of this enjoyable book.

Book for the Horse Lover

I LOVE this book. Julie Dicker seems like a very humble and caring person. Her ability to communicate and help horses heal just seems so extraordinary. If you own or love horses, this is a must have to better understand the equine. I love the compassion in this book. It will make your heart melt and rejoice to read these stories.

Awesome

Great book... I couldn't put it down. It does give you insight on the horses' thoughts but you can "read into it" as much as you want or as little as you want. I found myself being more aware of things going on in the barn. Good book for enjoyment if nothing else.

Great Book!

This not really a how to book, more ancedotal, but it was a good read.

It is exactly what I was looking for.....

I have much curiosity regarding the ability to communicate specifically with horses. Is this for real or just another new age philosophy that has somehow managed to sneak into the horse community? I have tried reading two previous books which were quite disappointing, as these 2 books had more to do with new age mysticism and less to do with my specific interest: HORSES. Although I have not finished reading this above-referenced book, I am enjoying it tremendously and even if after finishing this book, it turns out that communicating with horses is not possible; at least I will have been powerfully impressed and hopefully, become more sensitive to the needs of horses. If only one horse profits, as a result of a single reader of this book, then the authors' efforts will have been truly worth it. Congratulations on writing a wonderful, wonderful book.
