What Happened to My Mother (not to mention the rest of us)

I've just finished reading a book published in 1981 by Henry Edwards, "What Happened to My Mother (not to mention the rest of us)." It's an astonishing chronicle of what happens to a family when the mother and wife suddenly experiences frightening hallucinations. I wish I could find out more about the author because he was a writer of some note. Since there is veritably nothing on the Internet about him, I can only surmise that he is no longer living and/or writing. The story begins sometime in the mid-1970s and Esther Katz's husband and son find themselves in a situation totally unknown to them: the world of mental illness and the hospitals that attempt to treat it. Much has evolved in mental illness treatment since the mid-1970s, and the reader discovers just how little understanding there was about how to treat various symptoms of those with mental illness. Having been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder after 2000, I am sympathetic to the family and all that accompanies their learning experiences, as Esther finds her way back from a life-threatening illness. I recommend this book to everyone suffering from depression and other mental illness of any kind. Not only is there much valuable information is in this book, but also one learns how this family copes with a medical community at the beginning of our present-day vanguard into the treatment of mental illness.
