Chivalry

If someone in Heaven allowed a demon fiend to kill your guardian angel, wouldn't you like to have a former Knight Templar assigned to check into the situation? For Rachel Duncan, a self-made broker at The Merc in Chicago, she doesn't just get a holy warrior angel working her case, she gets a hot & hunky holy warrior angel. The problem is she already has a boyfriend and, well, that holy warrier angel has some rather limiting rules to work within during this mission. The mother-daughter team of Margaret and Lizz Weis has put together a satisfying romance that offers more than a typical sappy "boy-chases-girl" story would. Even with the pleasing reminder that humans get to make their own choices in the individual battles of the spiritual warfare around us, none of the scenes in the book get didactic or overbearing. Heck, the angels seem to have as much trouble obeying the rules as the humans...sometimes quite humorously. Sometimes with dire consequences. Any reader looking for a paranormal romance to whisk him or her out of reality and into the supernatural for an afternoon will enjoy Warrior Angel. I recommend it. From Sandy Lender, "Some days, I just want the dragon to win."

5 stars

Seven hundred years ago, Derek DeMolay, Knight Templar, was killed by the Inquisition and has spent the years since battling demons as a Warrior Angel, never once asking to be admitted to Heaven. Now, a traitor has been discovered among the angels and part of the key to unmasking and stopping this threat lies in the life of Rachel Duncan, a twenty-first century young woman who works in the stock market pits. Derek is assigned to keep an eye on her and try to circumvent the plot that Hell is weaving around her. Though being her doorman might not seem to be the most ideal spot from which to perform his duties, Derek takes on the role with the dedication that he has ever given his duties. It does not take long for him to find the demon after the woman who is winning his own angelic heart. Under an urbane mask, Zanus is weaving a spell of temptation that could topple the world, all via Rachel's unwitting hands. Derek will break every rule under Heaven if he must to save her and incidentally, the world. ***** I'll grant you that the theology in this book is not the best. However, that does not stop it from being an entertaining, fun, action-packed read with splendid characters who leap off the page. Like Andrew Greeley's Angel Fire, this upsets the idea that angels are fluffy, harp playing wimps and shows them as take charge beings. I hope this begins a series; Derek and Rachel are a spectacular couple as are their two supporting cast members, Angel William and Cherub Sampson. *****

Folks -- this is a ROMANCE, so if ...

... you're too full of yourself, too proud of your intelligence, and too pretentious to set aside five syllable words in favor of reading a fun, other-worldly romance, skip this book and take your negative reviews to SF/fantasy land. Wal-Mart put this book exactly where it belongs -- with the other vampire/werewolf/paranormal romances. I was charmed from the word "go". From the start, I smiled and thought it had a rather "It's a Wonderful Life" element to it -- remember Clarence, who needs his wings? That's Sir Derek, folks. Speaking of whom, I found Derek absolutely enchanting. This is HIS story. If you like different heroes -- here, he's a drop-dead gorgeous former Knight Templar returned to earth to guard/spy on a woman who has lost her guardian angel -- then this is the romance for you. And yes, of COURSE Derek and Rachel fall in love. That's the point of a romance! I cheered for them both. A refreshing change of pace for a romance. Recommended highly for romance readers.

Familiar Character "types"

As a HUGE fan of the Dragonlance series I couldn't help but giggle and smile about 2 of the supporting cast in the book.Archangel William is very much like the beloved Fizban ,hat and all...lol The other one reminds me very much of a certain doorknob of a kender. Not exactly a warrior but a cherub.Wants to help as best he can and guards Rachel the female lead after a time.Wants to guard her as best he can with out blowing his "cover",and becomes a companion when she needs one the most. However as much as these "types" are in the book there is one part that just shouldn't be read by younger readers (Although I found the book in the Fantasy section next to other Dragonlance books so I am suprised it was there.) But if this is Lizz Weis' first book then I say cut her some slack people. Was good for what it was.And to the people who couldn't get past page 67 it gets better....;-)

enthralling paranormal romance

Once he was a Knights Templar tortured by the Inquisition who wanted to break him and have him tell lies about his order. He never broke so when he died he went to Purgatory waiting for Heaven's judgment. When he arrived at Heaven's Gate he was angry at God who he believes forsake him and his pride returned to let him open his heart to enter Paradise. Instead, he became a warrior angel in Purgatory battling Satan's minions. Now the demons are moving to Earth with a rumored new tactic so Derek de Molay is sent to watch over commodities trader Rachel Duncan who lost her guardian angel. Derek is the doorman at her building where he meets the man she involved with Andreas Zanus who is actually a demon in human form. He convinces her to do some shady deals for him. Derek knows that Zanus is high up in the legions of hell and also is torn between following Heaven's orders and his need to protect Rachel the woman he loves. Rachel must decide what to do about Zanus blackmailing her into doing what he wants, knowing it is illegal and will cause harm to millions. Derek must find a way to save Rachel and stop Zanus, two goals that seem impossible with the heavenly limitations placed on him. Margaret Weis has long been known to fantasy fans for her epic novels. Now she takes her writing in a new direction, collaborating with her daughter Lizz to provide an enthralling paranormal romance that concentrates on the battle between the angels and demons over human souls. Readers will like this entry because the angels and the demons have some human qualities that make them easier to understand. The romance between Derek and Rachel is glorious as a man who doesn't trust God and a woman seduced by a demon's glamour feel for each other something that can only be heaven sent. Harriet Klausner
