This novel is based in part upon experiences of the author's Army Ranger Grandson who was wounded in Afghanistan. The book also involves the women back home waiting. Sometimes waiting is too much and actions by the women separate themselves from the soldier fighting. The protagonist, John Dee, becomes a Christian in a firefight, which influences the girl he marries. John Dee has enough trouble with the women that he blames himself for some defect in his personality. His search for personal improvement and the affects of killing Taliban have an influence on his chosen profession after the Army. He becomes a missionary to the people that were his enemies, and he brings along with him disyfuctional people who grow as Christians with him. It is a combination of how people act as non-Christians and how they act as Christians. The book will offend the Pharisees and encourage the evangelicals.
