these essays are always entertaining and sometimes wonderful

MR.COX'S BOOK IS A VERY NICE COLLECTION OF ESSAYS WITH SUBJECTS AS FAR RANGING AS PLASTIC SNAKES AND DIVORCE-HE HAS AN EXTREMELY FLUID AND COMFORTABLE WRITING STYLE WHICH IS AUGMENTED BY TOP NOTCH MATERIAL-NOT EVERY ESSAY IS BRILLIANT, BUT QUITE A FEW ARE, AND THE REST ARE ALWAYS GOOD FOR A CHUCKLE.

Funny, absorbing, and moving prose.

I moved from western North Carolina before I had the chance to read Cox's columns. A friend there told me I would enjoy the book. Cox writes movingly about his past and casts a sharp, witty eye on his friends and neighbors. "Such Sweet Sorrow" is condensed emotion; the descriptions in the middle of the essay are so apt it is heartbreaking. Later entries echo this one, particularly the column about brides' pictures in the Sunday papers. Cox deserves a wide reading. I will look for more in the future!

It truly was a walk down memory lane.

I grew up with Chris and remember alot of what he has written about. I bought this book when Chris went back to Sparta for a book signing. I traveled from Pittsburgh, PA so I could buy the book and see Chris again. I started reading the it on my way back to Pittsburgh and couldn't put it down. I laughed and cried. It is truly one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was truly a walk down memory lane. Thanks Chris for helping me remember.

Realism mixed with humor, satire and emotion.

A collection of essays that causes laughter and heart-felt emotion, while viewing life through the eyes of someone that seen both the ups and downs. The book will remind you of the strange ways in which friendships are made and the struggles faced during our daily life. An excellent start for a seasoned columnist and new author.

A poet with Lewis Grizzard's charm & story-telling ability.

First, congratulations to my brother, Chris Cox. I am proud of your accomplishments. Now for the book...One story would make me laugh out loud, and the next would bring a lump to my throat. This collection of columns outshines books by Grizzard and other national columnists I have read both in its sharp wit and in its heartfelt emotion. I have always enjoyed reading my brother's work; now the rest of the world will have a chance. Enjoy.
