Sent the wrong version

I put the number that identifys the book in and it was supposed to be the 9th edition. I got sent the 2nd edition. This is ridiculous because if the barcode number matched then I should have gotten the 9th edition. I need this book for my philosophy class, I literally waited for this book and it's already a week into classes and I just got it and it's the wrong book. I'm highly upset.

Great Price

I gave this all the stars because it was soooo cheap. I had to buy this for a college philosphy course, and at the student store this book would have cost me over $150 just for a USED book.

Fun to read

The language of the text can be a bit challenging at times, though I prefer it to be as it is rather than if the entire book was re-translated into modern speech. It really isn't that much of an issue, espically if youve read the introductory chapters, which talk about How to read the book, and What philosophy is. This book really was able to open me up to interesting ideas, and taught me how to anyalyze those ideas in critical ways (read the beginning chapters!). It's a process that continues on now long after the course, and am glad I had the opportunity to take it. I still refence back to the book on occasion, or sometimes I just flip through and find something interesting to read and analyze.

Book Review

I got this book for a class that I am taking at Strayer. I have not had a chance to start reading it as the class does not start until 12JAN09.

Lots of quality excerpts

What a cool book! Used often as a required textbook for Philosophy 101 classes, this is a valuable reference for a lifetime. Most of the book is multi-page excerpts from some of the great thinkers in human history. Plato, Laozi, James, Martin Luther King, Engels, Nietzsche, Dalai Lama, Richard Dawkins, Kuhn, on and on. It's neatly organized into twelve chapters; within each there are about six excerpts from different books with an insightful introduction and reading questions. Chapters include Is There a god? Is Knowledge Possible? What Am I? and other non-trival questions. Reading this comprehensive anthology gives a broad literate education without the months (years?) it would take to read through all the original texts, if you could somehow know what they'd be. A worthwhile reference and a jumping off point into some classic books of human thought.

Philosophers: Then and Now.

I liked Voices of Wisdom. This book is a very educational tool. It covers ideas and articles from such philosophers as Jean Paul Sartre, David Hume, Socrates, and etc... The book has a wide variety of ideas, and arguments. This book is good for a student just beginning to learn philosophy. I would be pleased to recommend this book to anyone curious about the subject.
