Not a Civil War Buff.

The reading I had done about the strategic importance of Vicksburg was clear. Setting this aside and approaching the campaign as the focus of an objective that covered months was staggering. The sacrifices, the characters (north & south) the strategy (failed & rethought) events on the Mississippi & land made for me a favorite read. Not to spoil the conclusion, the end of this battle will always be overshadowed by the more famous battle the ended the day before the conclusion of fighting in Vicksburg.
