Accounts of unusual people and extraordinary events

Stories about odd people are always of interest, especially when they do not stray from the historically accurate. Many authors find it easy to embellish accounts in order to liven up the book and boost sales. Cornell generally stays within the proper bounds, although his account of Hetty Green is overstated. Other accounts indicate that she was not the mentally disturbed miser described in this book. Some of the stories are about people who performed incredible feats or were incredibly lucky. Philippe Petit, who walked a high wire between the two World Trade Center Towers, Hannah Snell who fought as a soldier for the British Empire, and J. H. Hedley, who during World War I fell out of a plane and then landed on a wing when the pilot maneuvered to avoid enemy fighters. Such accounts tend to make interesting reading and this book is no exception to that.

Funny little book

I was given this book with a purchase and my boyfriend and I read the entire book aloud to each other in a couple of hours. It has short cute storys about wierd people and is told in a silly manner. We decided it would be great for bed time stories for kids.
