Book Overview

The year is 1980. Las Vegas has grown from a crude desert wasteland filled with bawdy miners and bingo parlors into a showplace of dazzling casinos - a gambler's paradise. Fanny Thornton has recently married Sallie's son, Simon, but theirs is not a happy union. Simon is a jealous, domineering man whose suspicions and increasing paranoia about his brother - Fanny's ex-husband Ash Thornton - have estranged Fanny from her four children. But now Ash is...

The Vegas Series: Vegas Heat

Fanny Thornton, a.k.a. Mrs. Las Vegas, has inherited all her money from ex-husband Ash's mother. Fanny now controls all of Las Vegas including the newly built casino, Babylon, which her ex runs. But she's not happy. Dating Ash's brother, Simon, is a little too close to family for her likes but after marrying him she finds out she knows nothing about the evil person he's become. "Who are you, Simon? More to the point, what are you?" She comes to find out that she knows very little about her husband. That everything he has said or done has been a lie. During a family emergency she is forced to take over and run Babylon. Vegas Heat by Fern Michaels is about Fanny's struggles to find out what true happiness is. Fanny is a kind compassionate woman who gave herself completely to her children. Until she realized she wasn't being honest, she never thought about herself. At times she is too much of a make believe character by always sacrificing herself for others. She's always getting into trouble that ends up being solved only to start a new conflict. The money doesn't over power her yet it makes you angry that she keeps most of it to herself and rarely spends it on cause worthy events. She's a bit too calm and normal when things get out of control and manages to cry in almost every chapter. Ash Thornton has reversed 180 degrees since the first book in this trilogy. He's loving, caring, and joyous. You have to wonder if it is just an act he is putting on to get at the Thornton money. "Ash must have an ulterior motive then. He never does anything without a reason." No one can believe that this man has changed for the better. It does seem unreal that he could change from being a greedy mad at life man to a loving babysitter for his young grandson with such ease. Fern Michaels should have made the transition smoother instead of snapping her fingers to give him a change. This book is about romance, happiness, and overcoming difficulties. The theme of this book is you can always overcome difficulties. The book has too many obstacles for the main character to jump over. It is like a yearlong soap opera crammed into 400 some pages. Older women with kids will appreciate this book because they can relate to Fanny. They can relate to the obstacles she's been through. Women can relate to their kids not needing them anymore and the tragedies of marriage. Yet no woman will be able to relate to every single drama that happens. Fern Michaels' style is to create drama. She creates happily ever after endings for her books. There is always a new drama to be conquered that usually results in another one forming. Vegas Heat catches your attention and constantly changes your feelings while keeping you interested. It's an easy read for those who like long descriptive novels. It captures your interest but loses it's grip as every new drama happens. Yet you wonder every time, how are they going to get out of this one? If you like novels that never come to a point b

a cuddle up and forget all your problems book

Fern Michaels newest book, Vegas Heat, brings all the Coleman clan back along with new characters, The Thornton family. This book one in a triology, that only Fern Michaels can write with such humor, sadness, and tragedy brings the characters alive to the reader. You cry, smile, laugh along with them as you cuddle up with the book and ultimately forget all your troubles. How could one family have so many problems? And you thought your life was hard. Fanny Thornton has to be the ultimate wife, mother symbol. She endures more in her lifetime than any other woman I have ever read about. Her character comes alive as you read the book. She is your mother, sister, aunt, or best friend. I hated Ash for what he put her through early in their marriage, but with this book, he comes through as her best friend. And Simon, that guy needs professional help fast. To think he was portrayed as the knight in shining armor and how fast he turned around after the i do's were said. After Fanny devoted her entire life to h
