Strong Christian Mystery

Ms. Pickrell uses her very fine writing skills to put together a strongly Christian murder mystery. The characters are finely drawn from her experiences and put together a disabled young boy with a spirit driven mail-order detective. The story winds through human psychology and spiritual beliefs to deliver a bang of an ending. If you like a pervasive mystery with a quirky detective, this is a great read.

Move over, Sherlock.

Priscilla Perle is out of private eye correspondence school, and ready to tackle life's mysteries, most particularly the baffling case before her. She must prevail in order to prove herself! Due to the murders of two innocents within the same walls and the same family, something is sadly awry. The local police can't put their finger on it, but then they don't have the power of prayer and a peculiar hunch on their side, either. Priscilla is full of faith, but has no such deadly evil lurking about her own domicile, unless you count a lethal threat to her adopted felines. Pick this one up for a quick read, a sinister plot to unravel, and a laugh just when you need one. You'll come away with a new respect for the compassion and skill of newcomer, Mrs. Perle, Private Eye.

unto the least of these

The tape just above a foreboding lighted spiral staircase across the front cover of Unto the Least of These warns: "CRIME SCENE - DO NOT ENTER." Anyone with even a minute shred of curiosity is immediately beckoned to grab the book and dive right in. But as a reader is wont to do, I turn the book over to learn it involves a murder, with the only clue-holder and eye-witness being a ten-year-old boy who is afflicted with Cerebral Palsy and cannot speak. This might appear to be an unsolvable crime, but Priscilla Perle, a newly licensed private eye, steps up to bat and working around a few foul balls including voo-doo, knocks the ball right out of the park. There are also stories within the story of greed and estrangement as well as faith, saving grace and redemption. All in all, a mighty good read! A series featuring detective Priscilla Perle might be an endeavor for the author to consider.

A mystery with wonderful characters

In this Christian-focused mystery, Priscilla Perle is not your ordinary private investigator. By completing a correspondence course in four payments of $75 each, she earns her license to practice. As she perseveres at this for two years, she lands the biggest job of her career. Her husband Terry thinks that when he comes home from work, he will have to console Priscilla for not getting the job from Justin Lindler, the patriarch of the most prominent family in town. Little does he know that Justin takes a shine to Priscilla and with his faith in God, he believes she can solve the murders of the family that has affected them for years. Officer Jacobs, who works for the police force, is reluctant to share any information with Priscilla. Priscilla acknowledges this reluctance, but vows to share with him any information she discovers. As she begins to interview the family members, she takes on the huge task of finding who killed Justin's great grandson Ricky--and hopes to solve the mystery of the previous death of Susan, Justin's great granddaughter. The only witness to the crime is Jody who happened to be there when the murder happened. Although this 10-year-old boy who afflicted with cerebral palsy is no help to Office Jacobs, Priscilla vows to find a link to communicate with Jody. Mrs. Pickrell's style of writing has the reader anxiously waiting to see what happens next in the flip of a page. Her character Priscilla regularly dons the armor of God and sets forth in her faith to solve these murders. Armchair Interviews says: Priscilla is a modern Christian Miss Marple.

A New Detective to Watch

A short straightforward mystery with a decidedly Christian slant, this first novel by a North Caroina writer features an unusual private investigator who uses prayer to guide her search for a solution. Well-written, entertaining, and a quick, enjoyable read for vacation.
