Unresolved?: A Short Story by J S Morey

What if you had vowed to devote your life to the care of others, yet were sucked into a tragedy that would take a lifetime to compensate for and resolve?

How much good do we have to build back to cancel out the guilt for a past deed or event that we can never seem to shake off? It's a dilemma that few of us have to face - forgiveness for a mortal sin - such as murder.

'Every case is different' as they say or, 'It's a matter of degree.'

That may be true, but it rarely helps the one seeking redemption. They are left alone to suffer. We cannot judge them until 'we walk a mile in their shoes'. Such cliches come easy. Some carry that burden easier than others, and don't feel the need to make amends; on the other hand, some remain so damaged by past events that no remedy exists, no matter how hard the search to find resolution.

In both cases, things remain unresolved.

Heavy stuff, you may think. That said, enjoy this lighthearted drama set against the backdrop of a Midlands village (Blaby) with a brief excursion to St.Ives Cornwall.

Here's a brief synopsis:

You join Eric and Maggie on honeymoon. Let's be clear - the reader is not allowed beyond the bedroom door, but there is plenty more in this short story for an entertaining read.

What remains 'unresolved' for the most part is the suspicious death of Maggie's ex-fiance, but the tale extends beyond a simple crime drama.

Eric and Maggie also feature in the full novel, 'Wild Hearts Roam Free', the modern Western adventure set in Wyoming a few short years after the events here. Hopefully, 'Unresolved?' will prove to be an ideal taster before you tackle the later novel.
