Exceptional

Many books exist that give you "facts" about the succession of events leading up to America getting involved in WW 2, but none capture the reality of the life a family living through those days quite like this one does. MacCallum utilizes family letters, photos, and memoirs to bring it all to vivid life, making it personal and connectable to every reader. She has a way with words that immediately draws you in. Some parts warm your heart -- others make you cringe at the awfulness of what American troops endured. I highly recommend it.
