Although it contains 16 pages of color pictures of aircraft, its value comes from the wealth of data presented in tabular form. Written by a career USAF officer, this book carries a weight of authority not matched in a lot of other efforts in this area. Information Unavailable Anywhere Else

The U. S. Air Force has a certain tendancy to change it's markings from time. This means that a single aircraft may well have several paint jobs over its life as the united are reorganized, as aircraft are moved between units, or seemingly at the whim of various commanders. This book provides a complete record of what units, what units flew what planes, from what bases at what times, with what kinds of markings. There are two color sections illustrating virtually every type of aircraft in the air force inventory. This book represents a wealth of information that should prove invaluable to anyone attempting to identify aircraft seen in strange places and in unknown photographs. The material is presented in tabular form, so that it doesn't make for casual reading. The book is organized into three sections. First is the tabular data covering every USAF wing, group, squadron and detachment that was active and had assigned aircraft since 1978. Second is an index of aircraft markings. Third is a chronology showing when major events of the Air Force reorganization took place. This is information simply not available anywhere else.
