My first exposure to this superbly written text was in a Design of Experiments class given by a PhD in Applied Statistics. The text and lecturer combination was one of the few times I have been able to completely follow all of the statistical topics presented. 'Undertanding Industrial Experimentation' starts with the premise that not all of us are statisticians. The book first presents the concepts of 'variation' & 'mean', then builds the statistical analysis tools from there. I have used the concepts from this book, with great success, in numerous industrial applications. With easy to follow examples and well written text, any manufacturing/process engineer, with some mathematical training, can use this book to improve their manufacturing processes. The author says it best: "One of the most difficult things that a teacher must do is to look at his subject from the perspective of the student". I would say Mr. Wheeler has successfully accomplished his goal.
