David K. Bernard is the premier theologian among Oneness Pentecostals. Although I am Trinitarian, I thoroughly enjoy Bernard. All of his works display a command of his subject combined with remarkable clarity. And form his Pentecostal context he brings unique insights. For those concerned about adopting heterodox views, there is only about One page in this book directly dealing with the Oneness doctrine. Everything else is well within mainstream orthodoxy. He summarizes and defends the Grammatico-Historical perspective, and then also well explains the unique elements that all Pentecostals bring to interpretation. These especially have to do with the applicability of all Scripture and it's pattern for our lives. In summary, this is an excellent basic text for basic hermeneutics which could be beneficially enjoyed by the well informed layman. Caution to be exercised in the couple of small spots where the Oneness doctrine is specifically espoused.
