Under the Mask: A Guide to Feeling Secure and Comfortable During Anesthesia and Surgery

I found this book to be a very good source of information and advice, written in a style that was easy to follow and understand. My only disappointment was that it wasn't longer. Being disabled with painful back problems, I really appreciated the inclusion of a chapter on chronic pain management.

I bought this book for my sister who was undergoing valve replacement surgery - she told me that the book was very informative and she was able to ask the right questions to her surgeon and anesthesiologist regarding her care, especially as far as pain control after surgery.

I was stunned by reading Under the Mask by James Cottrell. I had no idea how much there was to know about anesthesia and how little I did know. and I considered myself an informed health consumer.Should I ever need surgery again, I will know what to ask my doctor, what to tell her, and I'll know that I have options for my anesthesia support that I never knew existed. Thank you, Dr. Cottrell, for having lifted the veil on this very important yet misunderstood area of health care.It's a must for anyone who is going to have surgery or who has a loved one going under the mask.
