Authentic Native America Perspective filled with wisdom

This is a highly interesting book of one Man's Journey to his own personal healing and work on behalf of his people reaching outward to include all people. Louis' autobiography covers extensive ground telling of his Koran War experience that led to the challenges of alcoholism, homelessness, and estrangement from his own culture. It tells a tale of a violence prone young man who finally discovered and returned to his own spiritual traditions to find healing, peace, and a way forward by then reaching into the common square and working to heal others. In that praxis, he finds healing for himself. This is a powerful book with untold spiritual insights, wisdom, and the true meaning of the phrase, "all my relations." Louis sought to live this wisdom as a elder, medicine man, and sage for the people who came to seek his counsel. His presence was felt powerfully in many different circles, healing circles, political circles through his association with the American Indian Movement (AIM), the Ghost Dance, teaching spiritual wisdom, and - perhaps most importantly - as a bridge between two very different cultures and ways of thinking. While Louis may not have felt at home in the culture of Eurocentric peoples, he learned to offer his counsel for those who sought it out. He followed his inner intuition leading him to various spiritual practices that few could endure in walking the red road. He was a man of, and for the people and took this responsibility in all seriousness, fortitude, and significance. This is one of those marginal books that is a gem of insight and wisdom. It opens a pathway to personal power, responsibility, and authenticity. If you drink of this well, you discover pristine waters that may heal the Soul.
