Twenty Two Months by James Reding

For a WW II history buff, this is a must read...a real page turner. It is not a war story but, but rather a story of a teenager that went to war. It relates the military experiences of a 17-18 year old during an intense twenty-two months as a sailor aboard an attack troop transport during the latter months of World War II. The book relates the everyday events and lifestyles of the crew and their troop passengers as they crossed the Pacific Ocean to the combat zone. During those voyages, the ship was stalked by Japanese submarines, went through two typhoons, Kamikazes attacks at Okinawa and mine fields off the coast of Japan. If you were or knew a young sailor serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the final months of World War II, this could be your/their story. As teenagers under the stress of hazardous sea and combat conditions, they held their own and did their jobs alongside the older guys. They grew up fast, had to to survive.
