Paternalistic, definately

Paternalism does explain the behavior of this unusual Tsar. It is not a term that others have used to describe him, and it is something nice one can say about him. But paternalism is not quite enough to overcome the many negative actions of this puzzling personality. The book is short (almost too short), concise, well written, and has a fine bibliography. This is a must read on Alexander I.
