Trip to India: Going home and not finding it

I'm an avid reader - never without books. I was especially thrilled with this book because I know the author, have worked with her for some years. She is a tireless advocate of child welfare. I had no idea of the scope of her background as she is a very modest person. I could not put this book down until I had finished it. It took tremendous courage for her to write. Her husband must be a wonderful man - for allowing her to make this trip back home with their young son, largely without him, for the huge expenses incurred, and to publish it upon her return. I have purchased extra copies to share with thinking friends. Aside from the great reading, the next best thing is that the author is donating 100% of the proceeds to a non-profit charity. I was left with a terrible feeling that the U.S. has been a bad influence on this wonderful, ancient country.

I have known Indira as a coworker for some time now. How honored I am to have read her book and had the opportunity to learn sooo much about her and her history. I was captivated as I turned each page. The character that had me at the edge of my seat, learning and growing, was that of a dear friend. Our busy lives keep us from learning the details of each other. I am so proud of her vulnerablity and willingness to share her experience. May her spirit be lifted with pride in her accomplishment!

This book gives insight on the impact of globalization and the technology industry for societies heretofore steeped in quite beautiful tradition and meaning. It portrays the inner meaning and significance of these trends for every day people caught up in global influences. The book is poignant and provides the reader with a depth psychological understanding of cultural changes, both from the perspective of the author and the people about whom she writes. The book is touching and quite moving. It has significance for people who emigrate to new lands and have to adapt to new cultures, for people everywhere caught up in cultural change, and for those who long to hold on to their homeland and to preserve the best of the culture they take with them when they emigrate beyond the original homeland. This is a good book for someone who needs to understand and comprehend the tremendous changes that contemporary India is going through. A very unique perspective presented as a personal experience of the post-globalization India. A must read for anyone who needs to do business in India but first needs to understand the Indian culture through its past and present values and the trends in the years to come.

I have read many books on oriental culture and specially India but this book narrates the reality of the socio-economic growth of the neo rich and its perils on the current generation. It appears that the author was truly shocked to withness cultural transformation during the visit. I liked the book because it appears to be bold in expressing the truth about the clash of the age old tradition and the social acceptance of modern influence.
