Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents, First Edition

I have been a therapist for over 10 years and I use most of the strategies that the book reviewed. As with most therapies I have missed some of the details. The book does a good job of giving concrete examples and allowing for some individualization for clients' needs. Not as rigid as my typical perception of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have been a play therapist for year and with kids who my time is limited or who are ready for more structured therapy I think this method will work well. I have seen some good results from the trauma narrative that has really helped clients get to the next level of healing. The material coovered in this text is thorough and detailed enough to let you know if you want ot receive further training - which links are given for. Well written and worth the price.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the impact of trauma on children. This book was required reading for a postgraduate course for professionals in treating trauma. Excellent resource for the professional counselor - may even be applied to young adults, adults with delayed emotional developmental issues, or developmentally disabled adults. Highly recommended graduated-exposure and appropriate titration to the processing of trauma experiences using an evidence-based practice.

After attending trainings on this method I was inclined to get the book which went into more detail on the TF-CBT method. I find the book helpful and a good reminder of the "shoulds" and "should nots" for this treatment modality. Worth the money and not a bad price.
