Trains

Whoo! Here comes the train. If you live near a train track, you know the excitement they generate when they pass by. Many children love to run to the side of the track to wave at the conductor in hopes they will toot their horn and wave back. Whoo! This book is all about trains. Most likely the person tooting at you from the cab of the train is the engineer because "the cab has controls for running the train." This book tells you what trains are, how they are used, it talks about freight trains and what they carry, it talks about the engineer, tells you how trains move, it discusses their power sources and tells why they are important. This is an example of a page on the use of trains: "Passenger trains take people from place to place. These trains have seats and windows. Some passenger trains travel long distances. They often have a dining car where people can eat. They sometimes have sleeping cars, too." This book is an excellent introduction to trains. It can be a read-aloud book for circle time or one the beginning reader will pore over. If you have a budding train enthusiast in your home, this book, a toy train and perhaps a used issue of a train magazine would be a thoughtful gift. I do remember a young train enthusiast in my house who used to sit up in bed poring over books like these. Whoo! Whoo! Have you got a young train fan in your house?
