I first read this book 25-30 years ago, about 2-3 years before my mom died. It was truly a gift, since it helped me cry and yet rejoice and hurt openly when my mom died. Dr. Claypool writes from personal, gut-wrenching experience, witnessing and living through his daughter's death through leukemia. The book is his trip through this grief experience, and consists of 4 sermons that he preached during this time. He is human, and admits his hurts and questions, but comes out thanking and glorifying God for the gift of life. It's a real pity that this little book is out of print. I have tried to keep enough copies to give to friends when they lose a loved one. I count it a great privilege not only to have read the book, but also to have known, heard, and to have been ministered to by Dr. Claypool. I strongly encourage everyone to get this book, because ultimately, all of us are people "of sorrow, acquainted with grief."
